Not 1-800-SERIOUS:  Please checkout the best foreign/holiday video clip we stumbled across this month. This holiday greeting was produced by an ad agency named TBWA in Vancouver, British Columbia. They are known for breakthrough creative, and they certainly got our attention.  We hope you enjoy this humorous holiday message. From all of us at Rickerson & Kruger, LLC, we wish you and your family a healthy and prosperous holiday season.

Things 1-800-SERIOUS

Interesting tidbit from our practice:

Problem: A young woman, who received a relatively minor injury in an automobile accident, incurred approximately $3,000 of medical expenses.  She was fully covered under her husband's employer's group health insurance policy. However, this couple also elected to purchase medical payments coverage with their automobile insurance.

Resolution:  The coverage provided through their automobile insurance comes first (as it is considered the primary coverage) and must be exhausted before their health insurance kicks in. Not only did this couple's purchase of additional coverage through their automobile insurance company work as a “windfall” for the health insurance provider, but she ended up with much less money in her own pocket because the health care providers were paid the full sticker price of the invoices rather than the customarily reduced charges negotiated by health insurance companies by way of master service agreements.  This presented a situation where the insurance agent who sold this couple the extra coverage for medical payments on their automobile policy actually did them a disservice.

Caveat:  It is important, when purchasing automobile liability coverage, to consider whether you really need to add extra coverage for medical payments.
